W.A.L.T Draw inferences from a piece of poetry
We were reading books about Huias and how the last Huia to bee seen was in the 19´s.
There were questions we had to anser about the Huia and here were the questions!
Structure
| From Being alive to death. 5 verses. Some of the words rhyme. Yes there is repetition. I think it does i'm not sure tho. |
Meaning What is this poem about? What is the poet’s message? | The story is about the Huia and how it is not alive anymore and the last Huia to be seen was in the 19´s.In the Poem they talked about how the Huia could sing really goodly. It also talked about how amazing and beautiful there feathers were. |
Language What words did the poet use to create an image? What was the effect of the rhetorical questions? | The singing part because like it says that there was just once bird singing and the rest were all dead. |
Imagery
| A really nice bird that sings really well and its beautiful feathers and the colours but they all got shot for their feathers and also money. The last Huia to be seen was in the 19´s. |
Effect | It made me feel sad because they are extinct. It made me think about a bird getting killed and used to decorate a hat or a coat. |

Facts! In the nineteen thousands the Huias started to get hunted down and get shot by the people who wanted his feather to make money with the beautiful black and white feathers. They would use the feathers for coats or just sell them to people who really wanted them. |
How they fround the Huia! It all started when the Maori people started to find birds that they could use for the tribe leader coats and hats. Then one of the tribe members found a bird called the Huia. Then they started looking for them and hunting them down for their feathers. |
What happen in the story ! They would use their feathers for coats or sell them for loads of money.Know the Huia are long gone know because they all got hunted down and cursed for coats. |

On Monday the 10th of May the senior syndicate went to the red zone!
We did lots of actives!
The first activity was that we made forts/tents. When we made our tents/fort we needed to make sure that no rain could come in and we needed to make it in a safe and dark place away from the enemies.
The second activity was dodge the bombs and lead your partner to the end without getting bombed. My partner was Payton. The first time we did it Payton got bombed. This was because when Miss Pownall threw the bomb at her feet she stepped on it.
The third activity was to answer questions in Mandarin to be able to cross to China if you were a refugee we had to work out what the teacher was saying because the were also talking Mandarin. We had to say our age, the date, our last name.
The fourth activity was trying the food that refugees would eat if there was wars and bombs in there country. We found out that refugees just eat rice nothing else rice everyday and ever week.
My Favourite part was really all of them cause they were really fun to do but kinda sad because we got to feel what it feels like to be refugee and how hard it is for the little kids and the adults.
