Reading :)

W.A.L.T Draw inferences from a piece of poetry

We were reading books about Huias and how the last Huia to bee seen was in the 19´s.

There were questions we had to anser about the Huia and here were the questions!

Structure

How is the poem organised?
How many verses are there?
What do you notice about the punctuation? Does it rhyme?
Is there repetition?
Does it have a sense of rhythm?

From Being alive to death.

5 verses.

Some of the words rhyme.

Yes there is repetition.

I think it does i'm not sure tho.

Meaning

What is this poem about? What is the poet’s message?

The story is about the Huia and how it is not alive anymore and the last Huia to be seen was in the 19´s.In the Poem they talked about how the Huia could sing really goodly. It also talked about how amazing and beautiful there feathers were.

Language

What words did the poet use to create an image? What was the effect of the rhetorical questions?

The singing part because like it says that there was just once bird singing and the rest were all dead.

Imagery

What pictures do you get in your mind when you read the poem? There are several metaphors in the poem – what are they? Why do you think the poet included these? What are they saying?

A really nice bird that sings really well and its beautiful feathers and the colours but they all got shot for their feathers and also money. The last Huia to be seen was in the 19´s.

Effect

How did the poem make you feel? What did it make you think about? What effect did the poet’s choices have on you as the reader?

It made me feel sad because they are extinct.

It made me think about a bird getting killed and used to decorate a hat or a coat.
